Historic Oak View County Park

Historic Oak View County Park, located in the southeast part of Wake County, is 27 acres of natural beauty and history. With its green gardens, farmland and picnic areas, it is the perfect setting for an outdoor experience for everyone.

The land has a rich history dating all the way back to 1940. Its history reflects the transition from an antebellum plantation into sharecropping and tenant farming. The Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Division took over operation at Oak View in 1995, making it the first historic site in the Wake County park system.

This is a great park to bring little ones for multiple reasons! One of the park's attractions is its friendly farm animals, particularly the sociable goats that eagerly approach the fence if you bring them food. The goats' names are Felix, Leroy, Henry, and Oscar- all super cute and sweet! They also have a chicken coop with lots of chickens inside. Kids can cool off inside the “Farmer’s Corner” where they can play and learn about the history of the farm. The Farm History Center serves as a visitor’s center and place where people can learn about North Carolina's agrarian past. The park also offers adventure backpacks for kids to borrow, which have self guided themed activity kits inside for preschool to elementary age. The park has two ponds for fishing also!
