Holding Park- Wake Forest, NC
Holding Park in Wake Forest, about 30 minutes north of Raleigh, unveiled its newest gem on March 2—a state-of-the-art, $1.5 million playground designed with inclusivity in mind. Made possible through a federal grant from the American Rescue Plan Act, this playground caters to children of all ages and abilities, addressing the town's need for greater inclusivity highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 11,000 square ft playground is fully ramped for easy accessibility for people of all mobility ranges. It offers sensory experiences such as play panels and musical equipment. There is an accessible interactive game piece, called MOVMNT, where kids can choose different light up games to play. There are also rockers, swings, spinners, slides, unique balance challenges, and a zero entry merry go round. Parents can sit in shaded seating areas while kids explore the outdoor musical equipment and the "serenity spot," featuring various calming activities within a fort-like environment.
The new playground complements the five-acre Holding Park, which already includes amenities such as the Wake Forest Community House, Holding Park Aquatic Center, picnic tables, charcoal grills, and a basketball court. The Aquatic Center has a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool, two water slides with plunge pool, and a children's pool with water play. With all the amenities and the addition of the new playground, Holding Park is a great spot for everyone of all ages and interests to enjoy.
