Raleigh Times Bar
In a beautifully restored building rich with Raleigh history dating back to 1906 when launched The Raleigh Times newspaper, guests now enjoy a meal over flickering candle light. Diners know the tall ceilings, creaky hardwood floors, and nostalgic brick walls to be home of the Raleigh Times Bar, but there was a day when that space saw newspaper production rather than the unique curation of delicious bites, appetizers and rare brews it does today.
Just like its history as an office supply store, shoe shop, jewelry store, and of course - Raleigh Times newspaper producer - the Bar is a Jack of all trades when it comes to its menus. From Mexico-inspired street tacos and smothered burritos, to classic burgers and other beloved bar bites, Raleigh Times offers a bit of everything! The scattered bars (yes, there are multiple!) offer inventive cocktails, featured drafts and other craft beers.
Having been restored in 2006 to its former glory with careful design choices that honor its past, the restaurant now offers sidewalk picnic table seating under string lights and quaint indoor dining options to appreciate framed memorabilia on the walls that tell the story of the building's long life before it ever welcomed its first restaurant-goers. On cool evenings, the rooftop patio, accessed via a sneaky staircase towards the back of the left wing of the restaurant, offers charming city views in an intimate setting. In other fun happenings on the patio - plan to attend a Dinner + Movie night! For the month of October, Raleigh Times hosted movie nights on the roof with spooky classics for diners to enjoy over a Honey Jalapeño Chicken and Waffle or other enticing dish. We’re excited to see what fun gatherings the holidays will bring! Perhaps some Christmas favorites like “Elf” or “The Grinch” on the roof? Count us in!
All in all, if a laid-back-vibe with historic undertones and a tasteful homage to memories past is up your alley, Raleigh Times Bar will delight! Find this welcoming venue at 14 E Hargett St in Downtown Raleigh.
