NC Museum of Art Park- Raleigh
By Chelsea Nallenweg
Right in the heart of Raleigh, the Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park is a 164-acre outdoor space that combines art, nature, and play in one inspiring space! Part of the NC Museum of Art campus, the park is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk, welcoming visitors to walk outside along permanent and temporary art installations, contemporary gardens, sustainable landscapes, and 4.7 miles of scenic trails.
Art here is interactive, making this great for kids to enjoy! The park is home to creative installations like the Musical Swings, where kids and adults of all abilities can swing to create melodies together, and the Daydreamer Benches, which are spinning seats that play harmonizing voices as you turn. Scattered throughout the trails and open lawns, guests will find other thought-provoking sculptures and colorful pieces that make walking a trail more exciting for kids!

Recently, the Museum transformed an underutilized section of the Park into a welcoming entry point at the District Drive entrance. Once a place of confinement, this area is now designed for exploration. This Welcome Center area offers water fountains, food, restrooms, and shaded patios with tables and chairs overlooking the landscape. It’s the perfect spot to pause and enjoy the view of the park!
Families can enjoy the Museum Park Scavenger Hunt, an interactive adventure that guides kids through the park with activities for all ages. Families can pick up a copy at the Welcome Center or download it from the Museum’s website before your visit.
Visitors can walk or bike into the park via the Capital Area Greenway, and there’s even a Cardinal Bikeshare kiosk at the Reedy Creek Road entrance if you want to ride the trails. Kids can also bring their bikes or scooters for these trails since they’re paved!

While the Park is open every day, the indoor galleries and café are open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful nature walk, a family-friendly outdoor activity, or a new way to experience art, the NC Museum Park is a must-visit outdoor activity in Raleigh!
