Bass Lake - Holly springs
By Chelsea Nallenweg
Located in the heart of Holly Springs, Bass Lake Park is a scenic nature outing perfect for families with kids of all ages! The highlight of the park is the 1.9-mile loop trail that circles the lake, making it an easy, peaceful walk with beautiful lake views and plenty of nature to take in. Kids can look for osprey, eagles, waterfowl, turtles, and the occasional snake along the way! While most of the trail is flat and family-friendly, about 0.25 miles winds through the woods with a slight incline. The trail is fully mulch-covered, but could be doable with a jogger stroller.
There are plenty of benches along the waterfront to stop and take in the view, and the lake has multiple fishing spots and docks. Fishing is free with a license, and the lake is well-stocked with 1,500 lbs. of catfish every other month from mid-spring through mid-fall.
During the summer, you can rent canoes and small motorized boats daily, making it easy to enjoy the lake from the water. There’s also a small sandy beach area for kids to play, though swimming is not allowed.
Visitors can also stop by the visitor center, which features a nice, large deck with rocking chairs overlooking the lake—a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings! Bass Lake Park is a beautiful, accessible nature outing with just the right mix of relaxation, wildlife, and adventure for all ages.
