November 2023 marked the grand opening of Downtown Cary Park, a seven-acre urban oasis located in the heart of downtown Cary, just fifteen minutes outside of Raleigh. This enchanting park quickly became a local hotspot, captivating visitors with its unique features. There is something here for people of all ages!
The park's signature attractions are the two, giant cardinal play structures that stand in the playground, which is called “The Nest”. With different climbing routes to the top and a giant slide, these cardinals are popular for adventurous kids. Kids can also climb to the very top and look out through the cardinal's eyes, which looks out onto the slide area of the park.
“The Nest” also has an awesome slide zone. With six different types of slides, this area is perfect for kids of all ages. Whether kids prefer tall, twisting turns or small and slower, there is a slide at this playground for everyone!
Beyond the playground, Downtown Cary Park unfolds into a haven of natural beauty.The botanical gardens are beautiful to walk through, especially during Spring and Summer months. There is a small pond with adirondack chairs to sit and relax or look at ducks. There is also a nice skywalk designed to walk around the different areas of the park and take in the views of. Downtown Cary Park also features a “Bark Bar”!. The Bark Bar is an open air pavilion that offers beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks and it is adjacent to the dog park. Visitors can enjoy a drink while their dog plays inside the enclosed artificial grass area. The park also features a beautiful pavilion building that has public bathrooms and a grab-and-go cafe.
Downtown Cary Park is next to the Cary Regional Library and Cary Arts Center. There are also many restaurants along the main street of downtown Cary, just walking distance from the park!
There is currently a series of light installations located around Downtown Cary Park, called GLOW, and visitors can see these lit up at night through March, 2024. GLOW is presented by Academy Street Artwork Project and each installation is on view for one week, two weeks, or a month.
