Maple View Sunset

Ice cream is my favorite dessert hands down. If I were to recommend any ice cream place in the RDU area, it would be Maple View Farm Ice Cream. When the weather gets nice, I make sure to catch a sunset at Maple View. They have hundreds of delicious and unique ice cream flavors and sell their farm-fresh milk.  

The Location

The ice cream shop is located on Maple View Farm, meaning it’s surrounded by rolling fields of farmland. Lots of people will park their cars in the parking lot and sit in their trunks to watch the sunset with their cones in hand. They also have many picnic tables for outside seating, and you’re able to sit on the grass and just enjoy the ice cream, view, and summer weather. 

The wooden porch on the outside of the ice cream shop is lined with rocking chairs. Almost every time I’ve gone there’s been a line out the door but the wait is never long and the service is good. There is also a cute cow statue on the roof. It’s a perfect location for families, kids, and friends of all ages to enjoy a sweet treat and the peaceful outdoors. 

Ice Cream 

In 2001 when they opened, they had 12 flavors. Now, they service hundreds of delicious ice cream flavors and unique creations. When I went, I got a creamy creation from their ice cream kits. They have a wide variety of creations you can choose from that combine ice cream, sweet syrups, and candy into a tasty cup. I ordered “The Jolt” which consisted of a coffee ice cream base, crushed Heath bar, caramel sauce, and dark chocolate fudge. It was yummy and sweet and definitely did the job of keeping me up to get some work done later that night. 

They also have a wide range of flavors for classic ice cream enjoyers. Some of their most famous and unique year-round flavors are Carolina Crunch, Banana, and Honey Toasted Almond. Depending on when you go, they offer seasonal flavors. This month the seasonal flavors that stood out to me were maple, cheesecake, and chocolate chip cookie dough. 

The Sunset

If you go to Maple View, you need to plan to go on a nice night. The experience is very weather-dependent, but luckily summer weather in Hillsborough, NC, is usually lovely. I’ve seen some pretty NC sunsets at Maple View. On this particular night, there were a few clouds that captured the light of the setting sun wonderfully. 

Final Remarks

Maple View Farm Fresh ice cream is the perfect summer activity. One important thing to note before you go is they only accept cash tips!
