Players Retreat
A long row of red umbrellas lines Oberlin Road at the intersection of Hillsborough Street just outside the NC State University in Raleigh. They act as a warm welcome to Players Retreat – a bar and restaurant that loyal patrons and Wolfpack fans have enjoyed for over 70 years! With charming evidence of being well-loved over time, Players Retreat (coined “PR” by locals) appeals to a modern crowd thanks to its expansive dog-friendly patio, large selection of beer, wine and whiskeys, and homey neighborhood feel.
Take a seat in the bar and watch the game on more than 15 TVs which hang over an impressive collection of single malt scotch whiskey (largest in the state!) Or, with warmer spring evenings just around the corner, find a table outside amidst the hustle and bustle of other diners enjoying good conversation and great food. Either way you’re guaranteed a fun atmosphere and top-notch service!
PR’s deliberate focus on quality ingredients and culinary expertise shines through all their menu items starting with the appetizers! The fried Mozzarella Sticks with homemade marinara sauce can’t be beat and are the perfect way to curb your appetite as you consider a beverage from the long list of over 100 by-the-glass wines, draft microbrews and beers. Made-to-order entrees range from juicy NC Pit Cooked BBQ to Beer Battered Fish, even Spaghetti and Hand Cut Filet Mignon! There’s truly something for everyone, with every taste, at every budget. Creating this space where all are welcome (even your four-legged friends!) is among the many things PR does best!
Players Retreat offers Daily Specials seven days a week on cocktails, beer and wine. Thursday through Sunday specials introduce new items to the menu including Pan Seared Flounder and French Braised Short Ribs. And if you find yourself in need of a late night snack, PR’s Late Night menu has you covered between 11PM-1AM with a variety of tried and true appetizers and toasty sandwiches.
Otherwise, plan your visit to Players Retreat anytime between 11:30AM to 12 AM (and 1AM on Friday and Saturday!) for a wonderful spin on a historic pub. We’re excited to see you there at 105 Oberlin Road in Raleigh, NC 27605!
