Thai Station
I went to Thai Station as a fancy dinner spot before a formal event, so my friends and I were all dressed up. Though most people were dressed casually, I still didn’t feel like we stuck out with our long dresses. Thai Station was the perfect amount of fancy for everyone in the room. Also, though I love Thai food already, this restaurant impressed me beyond its dishes.
The Ambiance
The ambiance of Thai Station is definitely the one thing that makes this restaurant so unique and worth visiting. Since it is close to the Carrboro train tracks, part of the restaurant is built into an old train car, which you’re able to dine in. When you walk in the main room is very open and there is plenty of natural light as well as hung chandeliers. Another thing I loved about Thai Station was the greenery, plants, and flowers that drape from the ceiling.
Our table was around the corner and we were able to sit in one of the train car sections. The seats were regular booths built out into the car and the windows allowed you to see outside to other customers, and to the train tracks. It was a super pretty atmosphere!
Food
I ordered the green curry and some vegetable spring rolls. They were both very good. The green curry was spicy but not too spicy in my opinion. My friends tried the dumplings, crab cheese spring rolls, and pad thai. All of their meals were delicious and we had enough for leftovers the next day. I will also note that one of my friends is gluten-free and they were able to accommodate this throughout the majority of their menu.
Final Remarks
I know I said I would compare the two Thai restaurants in Carrboro and tell you my honest opinion on which I prefer. When it comes to Cham Thai and Thai Station, I simply would have to pick Thai Station. The restaurant is just so unique, decorated well, and there is a lot more space for seating. That being said, I think the food is comparably good and I would still recommend both to give a try to.
