Transfer Co. Food Hall

Can’t decide between a bowl of authentic ramen, a top-quality burger, a flaky empanada or an award-winning burrito?  At Transfer Co. Food Hall, you don’t have to!  Over 10 vendors, each boasting their own menu of unique, made-to-order dishes, operate out of the historic brick building at 500 E. Davie St. in Raleigh.

Though the 4,300 square foot building that once housed the historic Carolina Coach garage and shop has been “modernized” with string lights and yellow umbrellas on the patio, and tasteful artist graffiti on the interior, a few steps through the doors will have you soon asking, what did this place used to be?  The history of the building we now know as Transfer Co. Food Hall dates back to 1925, when bus transportation was thriving in North Carolina and the Carolina Coach Company was the only bus transportation provider in Raleigh offering long-distance trips.  Today, as you stroll the property deciding which delicious smell to follow to your next meal, you’re walking among what was once Carolina Coach Company’s garage, repair shop and headquarters!  In fact, this popular Raleigh hang is extra special, as it’s one of only four historic automotive garages here in Raleigh today.

As you enter through the front doors on the southeast corner of Davie and East St., take a minute to get your bearings!  Just to your right is Mama Crow’s, where you can choose from a tempting burger, a loaded fresh salad, or a crispy plate of fries.  If you’re feeling brave, try the Reaper Burger, complete with pimento cheese, pickled jalapenos and Carolina Reaper-infused mayo… needless to say, we hear it’s got a kick!

Much of the fun at Transfer Co. Food Hall is taking a momentary split from the group you came with to explore all your options. There’s a great ratio of food to beverage to dessert options, so don’t feel like you have to limit yourself to one spot!  After your meal, grab a fully customizable ice cream sandwich from Captain Cookie and the Milkman.  Or, if you didn’t yet partake in the lighter-than-air empanadas from Che, consider picking up a dulce de leche sandwich cookie in chocolate or coconut to round off your meal.

A true gathering place, Transfer Co. Food Hall welcomes any party of any size and any age!  Parents will appreciate a casual, family-friendly atmosphere anywhere within the restaurant, with the outdoor patio making for a perfect place to let kids play.  Groups of friends will love the energy and flexibility of having so many vendors under one roof.  “Let’s meet at Transfer Co.!” is an invitation sure to please even the pickiest eaters - with so many diverse and mouth watering cuisines, the options are endless.

Hours of operation vary by vendor, so if you have your eye on something in particular, be sure to check out that vendor’s website directly.  Otherwise, the Food Hall is yours to explore everyday between 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM depending on the day.  Plan your visit through their website here.
