Union Station Deli and Catering

Mid-August saw some extra hustle and bustle at Raleigh Union Station, but not for reasons you might think! It wasn’t train tickets that were beckoning visitors to the station, but instead, the grand opening of a New York style deli located directly inside.

It’s not every day you think to seek out a phenomenal sammy from your local transport station, but don’t be quick to dismiss Union Station Deli the next time you’re stumped for lunch plans! Its founder, Dean Ogan of Rocky Top Catering, is no stranger to delivering top notch hospitality through his culinary feats around Raleigh. For 25 years, he’s dreamed of establishing a spot for sandwiches that takes him back to the flavors of his New Jersey upbringing, and after one visit to Union Station Deli, you’ll be so happy he planted his roots in The Triangle!

With convenient access right through the entrance to Raleigh’s Union Station, you can’t miss this new addition as the smell of fresh ingredients, toasty bread and baked treats wafts through the doors. Good vibes and the allure of a great meal will draw you towards its cheerful storefront and abundant tables for enjoying your meal on a lunch break or before you catch your train.

Union Station Deli’s menu is chock full of authentic, New York and Jersey-style handhelds piled high with the freshest meats and cheese sliced to juicy perfection. There’s options o’ plenty for lovers of a more traditional Italian hero or roast beef sandwich, as well as a section thoughtfully dedicated to those who prefer their veggies.  The Artichoke Melt is simply a must-try for anyone, with sun-dried tomato spread and marinated artichokes on a hearty ciabatta loaf.

Don’t leave without snagging a baked treat for the road! Conveniently sealed and made fresh daily, I may just find myself returning to Union Station for the black and white cookie alone! Is there really anything better than a savory sandwich and an oversized, soft cookie? Except for the chance to enjoy it in the heart of Downtown Raleigh, we think not. And the good news is that Union Station Deli checks all those boxes. They even offer catering for large groups at exceptional prices. So make a point to visit Union Station this week - with or without a train ticket - with a Union Station Deli sandwich in hand, you’ll be so glad you did!
